What We Treat

Persistent pain states can be confusing to diagnose and complex to treat, as they often affect more than one body system. However, at The Pain Physio, our experts have the knowledge and experience to provide you with an accurate diagnosis and use the latest techniques proven to work – so you pain will get better quicker.

For easiness, we have grouped the most common persistent pain presentations into three categories: Fibromyalgia Pain, Nerve Pain and Spinal Pain.

Fibromyalgia

Fybromyalgia is a condition that affects women more than men and amongst other symptoms it can cause:

  • Constant “all over” body pains and burning
  • Severe disturbed sleep patterns
  • “Brain fog” and problems concentrating.
  • Constant extreme exhaustion, regardless of rest.

It is very distressing and disabling, as it turns your life and those of loved ones upside-down as you struggle to cope with the basics of day to day life.

Unfortunately, in the quest for a solution, many embark on an epic journey of frustrating inconclusive medical appointments, tests which often come back as “normal”, and the trial countless medications which are often taken with much hope, but poor results.

This roller coaster of physical and emotional ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ does little to help your condition. However, Fibro management is difficult, as firstly there is no medical test to accurately diagnose it and, secondly, it is often complicated by other co-existing factors that make its diagnosis and treatment quite confusing.  This is why seeing a specialist clinician is really important, as an early diagnosis and optimal treatment program designed with ‘You’ in mind will help  you recover quicker.

The good news is that at The Pain Physio, we have the experience, specialist skills and expertise to make sense of it all and get you back on track.  So why not get in touch and let us help you on your journey back to full health – Because without health, you don’t have anything…

Nerve Pain

Nerves are the structures that via your spinal cord communicate your brain with he rest of your body. They are necessary to convey information about movement and sensations such as hot, cold, vibration, pressure and pain – which aids normal body function.

But what causes nerve pain and how to know if you suffer from it?  Well, trauna, inflammation or even a virus can affect nerves and make them become dysfunctional or, in extreme cases, damaged. The pain they produce is very distinctive: shooting, burning or “electric shock” like. In addition you may experience a sensation of tingling, numbness or weakness of a particular muscle, which can all be very distressing.

Unfortunately, the workings of a nerve can be very confusing. So for example, where you feel the pain is often not where the problem actually lies. This is why having an expert clinician who can carry out any specialist tests and provide you with an accurate diagnosis is really important in helping you get back on track quicker. At The Pain Physio we have this expertise and, with over 20 years experience, there isn’t much we haven’t seen before!

Back & Neck Pain

Most of us will be familiar with the the odd lower back pain, mid back pain or neck pain. It is usually self limiting and resolves within a few days. However, when it doesn’t and becomes relentless, it can be very disabling as most daily activities we do will involve lifting,  bending or twisting our backs to some degree.

The most common causes of spinal pain are direct injury , inflammation, ongoing poor posture, and normal degenerative processes (arthritis). Since there are many structures in one area that can produce back pain , such as the Facet joints in the vertebra, the discs in between the vertebra, nerves or muscles in the area, it can all get a bit confusing.

This is why early intervention by an expert clinician with the right experience and knowledge can get you an accurate diagnosis and devise the best suited treatment plan to your needs, so you will get better quicker! The good news is that at The Pain Physio we have the knowledge and expertise in treating various types of spinal pains and after 20 years in practice there isn’t much we haven’t seen before! We are also able to able to refer you for Xrays or scans if indicated to help clarify your diagnosis.

We have experience in successfully treating the following spinal conditions:

    • Disc ‘bulge’ or degeneration
    • Facet Joint Dysfunction
    • Spondylosis (Arthritis)
    • Spondylolisthesis
    • Whiplash
    • Muscle Strains
    • Fibromyalgia
